Governor Meyer Recognizes Gun Violence Awareness Month, Grants Pardons To Community Leaders Committed To Preventing Violence
Governor Matt Meyer has issued a proclamation marking June as Gun Violence Awareness Month in Delaware, reaffirming the state’s focus on reducing violence, supporting victims, and strengthening prevention and intervention efforts. During the signing event today, Governor Meyer also granted pardons to two Delaware residents–Cammerin Norwood and Kaligah Parker– saying their work in community service and personal growth reflects the importance of accountability alongside rehabilitation. He said gun violence is preventable and pointed to community engagement, legislation, and intervention strategies as key tools in improving public safety. The Governor also emphasized that Delaware should be both tough on crime and a place where people can earn a second chance, saying the individuals pardoned are now helping to prevent violence and mentor young people in their communities. Through the Office of Gun Violence Prevention and Community Safety, which the Governor established this year, Delaware officials say the state continues to invest in community-based violence intervention programs, youth engagement initiatives, trauma-informed services, and partnerships with law enforcement and local organizations working to reduce violence and improve public safety.
