Laurel Police Arrest Woman After False Sexual Assault Allegation


A 21-year-old Centreville, Maryland woman has been arrested for reporting a sexual assault that police determined never happened. The Laurel PD Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU) investigated the reported assault on Delaware Avenue in Laurel, where the alleged incident is said to have occurred. According to police, Alexis Hawkins reported that she had been sexually assaulted earlier that day by a male and was receiving medical treatment at TidalHealth Nanticoke Hospital. After a detailed and thorough investigation that included multiple interviews, anaylsis of surveillance footage, examination of electronic communications, and pursuit of numerous investigative leads, investigators determined that the reported sexual assault did not occur and that the allegation had been intentionally fabricated after Hawkins was reportedly rejected by the accused individual. Hawkins was then arrested and charged with Providing a false statement to Law Enforcement (Class G Felony) and Falsely reporting a criminal incident (Class A Misdemeanor). She was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court and issued a $1500 secure bond. She was transported to Sussex Correctional Institute after failure to post bond.

On June 4, 2026, the Laurel Police Department Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU) responded to a reported sexual assault that allegedly occurred in the 100 block of Delaware Avenue. Detectives were requested after patrol officers made contact with the alleged victim, identified as Alexis Hawkins, 21, of Centreville, Maryland.

During the initial investigation, Hawkins reported that she had been sexually assaulted earlier that day by a male subject and was receiving medical treatment at Tida lHealth Nanticoke Hospital.

As part of the investigation, detectives conducted multiple interviews, reviewed surveillance footage, examined electronic communications, and pursued numerous investigative leads to determine the circumstances surrounding the reported incident.

Throughout the course of the investigation, detectives discovered substantial evidence contradicting Hawkins’ account. Surveillance footage directly refuted the reported sequence of events, electronic communications were inconsistent with the allegations, and additional investigative findings further disproved the claim.

Based on the totality of the evidence, investigators determined that the reported sexual assault did not occur and that the allegation had been intentionally fabricated after Hawkins was reportedly rejected by the accused individual.

As a result of the investigation, Alexis Hawkins was arrested and charged with the following criminal offenses:

– Providing a false statement to Law Enforcement (Class G Felony)
