Residential Structure Fire Near Laurel Caused by Lightning Strike

Firefighters from Laurel were called to a residence on Trussum Pond Road for a fire around 10 Saturday night. Firefighters arriving at the scene found a 2-story home with heavy fire showing from the roof and second floor.

All residents were able to escape without injury and the home was equipped with working smoke detectors.

Multiple neighboring fire companies from Sussex and Wicomico Counties provided assistance or backup.

State Fire Marshal investigators say the blaze was accidental – caused by a lightning strike. Damage is estimated at $400,000.
