Talbot County Man Charged with Abuse of 8-day Old Child

An investigation begun by the Talbot County Sheriff’s office in November of 2025 has resulted in the arrest of a 30 year old Queen Anne, MD man for child abuse. Investigators learned that on November 19, 2025, Shayan Latif was awakened by his 8-day old child around 5am – and he noticed the child’s head was swollen and the child was lethargic. Latif drove the child to University of Maryland Shore Medical Center in Easton where doctors found multiple injuries consistent with abuse. The child was transported to Johns Hopkins for more advanced care.

After months of interviews, data review and consultations with experts with the FBI, Latif was identified as the person responsible for the child’s injuries.

An arrest warrant was obtained in June and Latif was arrested on July 9. He is charged with the following offenses:

  • First Degree Child Abuse
  • Second Degree Child Abuse
  • First Degree Assault

  • Reckless Endangerment

Latif is being held without bond.
