Cause of Sunday Night Fire in Mardela Springs Under Investigation

Firefighters from Sharptown were called for a garage fire in Mardela Springs just after 11 Sunday night. Crews arriving at Laurel Road residence found fire in the garage area of a single-story rancher-style home. Fire crews from multiple neighboring companies from Wicomico, Dorchester and Sussex County helped to battle the blaze or provide backup. Maryland State Fire Marshal Investigators say that there was a smoke alarm present and activated and all residents were out of the home.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is on-going. Firefighters were on the scene for over 3 hours and damage is estimated at $100,000.
