AAA: Air Travelers Advised to Book Early as Dynamic Pricing Takes Off

Many airlines have begun adopting a new fare pricing system known as the New Distribution Capability (NDC), developed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This technology enables dynamic pricing, allowing ticket costs to fluctuate frequently and vary by search location. As a result, traditional patterns of discounted fares are becoming less reliable. According to Amy Short, Director of AAA Travel Technology and Sales, travelers are now advised to book when fares meet their budget rather than waiting for expected price drops. Traditionally discounted days, such as Tuesdays or Wednesdays, are no longer guaranteed to provide savings. AAA suggests booking flights sooner rather than later. Given that dynamic pricing takes availability into account, flyers should assume fares will increase when there are fewer seats available. Also, AAA recommends working with a trusted travel advisor, as they will have a better understanding of the NDC system, including opportunities for savings such as bundling options based on traveler preferences.
