AAA Urges Drivers to Practice “100 Days of Safe Driving” This Summer
AAA is urging drivers to commit to “100 Days of Safe Driving” between Memorial Day and Labor Day, a period when crash fatalities typically rise. According to AAA, more than 30% of fatal crashes involving teen drivers and nearly one-third of impaired-driving deaths occur during the summer travel season. In 2024, 2,636 people nationwide were killed in crashes involving teen drivers, with 825 of those deaths occurring during the 100 days between Memorial Day and Labor Day. In Delaware, 8 people were killed in crashes involving teen drivers last year, including 3 during the summer period. AAA is encouraging drivers to avoid distractions, obey speed limits, buckle up, and plan ahead for a sober ride. The organization also says parents should help teens build safe driving habits during the summer months.
