An ambulance company and Peninsula Regional Medical Center are in hot water over fraudulent Medicare claims. The Daily Times reporting federal investigators are looking into whether Hart to Heart Transportation Services, in conjunction with PRMC, made fraudulent Medicare claims to make it seem like patients needed ambulance services when being discharged from the hospital. According to court documents, patients who could walk would be asked to lie down by PRMC staff, then Hart to Heart paramedics would strap them into a stretcher and haul them off. The lawsuit alleges the fraud totaled millions of dollars, and paramedics who refused to go along with the scheme were reprimanded and sometimes fired.
