UPDATED: Armed suspect shot, killed after lunging at police with knife in Milford


UPDATED – 1/7/20 9:40am – Delaware State Police have released the name of the man shot by Milford Police as he approached them with a large knife.  Police continue to investigate the circumstances around the death of 27 year old Brandon Roberts of Dover.  Milford Police responded to Silver Lake Estates for a domestic incident Sunday evening.  Delaware State Police are investigating at the request of Milford Police.


Delaware State Police are currently investigating an officer involved shooting in Milford.

According to the Delaware State Police Department, the incident occurred around 6:20 p.m., Sunday when officers with the Milford Police Department were dispatched to Linstone Lane, Silver Lake Estates Apartments, for reports of a domestic incident involving weapons.

As officers arrived, a male suspect came out of the apartment and into the hallway, advancing at police while brandishing a large knife. Both officers reacted to the threat by shooting the suspect with their issued handguns.

Officers immediately issued first aid to the suspect, a 27-year-old Dover man, who was transported to Bayhealth Sussex Campus where he was pronounced dead. His name is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.

The officers involved were not injured and there were no other reports of injuries.

At the request of the Milford Police Department, the investigation is being conducted by the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit.
