Assateague Horse Struck & Killed Saturday at Assateague Island National Seashore

With the end of Pony Swim week at Chincoteague and many more interested in the horses of Assateague, officials at the Assateague Island National Seashore report that a horse was struck and killed Saturday night around 9pm on Bayberry Drive within the developed zone. The horse that was struck was a 16 year old Bay female named Gizmo (T3DHT-H). Officials remind visitors that at night and during foggy conditions – wildlife, as well as pedestrians and bicycles are difficult to see. The speed limit on the island is not over 25 miles per hour – and in many areas lower.
