As Berlin town officials begin the budget process – the council is looking at possible increases in the taxes and water and sewer rates. They are looking at a possible tax increase to help beef up the town’s General Fund. District 2 Councilman Zack Tyndall tells WGMD that the water and sewer fund has been in the red for years – and borrowing from the dwindling General Fund. Tyndall says one way to help beef up the general fund and bring the water and sewer funds more in line would be to slow or stop annexations until those funds are sustainable.

City officials are early in the budget process – and want to hear from residents and taxpayers. A public meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 26th at Stephen Decatur High School beginning at 6pm and Tyndall says this public input will be crucial as the budget process moves on.
