Berlin Names New Police Chief

There’s a new man in charge of the Berlin Police Department. The Town of Berlin has appointed Colonel Howard Drewer as the next Berlin Police Chief – effective Monday, April 20th. Col. Drewer brings nearly 30 years of distinguished law enforcement and military service, marked by a commitment to public safety, leadership and community engagement. Chief Drewer recently retired from the Salisbury Police Department where he served for over 27 years, most recently as Assistant Chief of Police.

Chief Drewer recently retired from the Salisbury Police Department, where he served with distinction for more than 27 years, most recently as Assistant Chief of Police. Throughout his tenure, he held key leadership roles across both Operations and Administration, demonstrating a strong ability to guide complex public safety initiatives while fostering trust within the community. His career included service as a detective with the Wicomico Narcotics Task Force, membership in the Tactical (SWAT) Unit, and participation in community policing efforts that strengthened relationships between law enforcement and residents.
Prior to his law enforcement career, Chief Drewer served honorably in the United States Army, continuing his service concurrently in the Army Reserve and retiring at the rank of Sergeant Major. His military career included deployments to Bosnia, Korea, Afghanistan, and Iraq, reflecting a lifetime commitment to serving both his country and his community with integrity and courage.
Chief Drewer is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and has received numerous commendations throughout his career, including Chief’s Awards, Meritorious Service Awards, Exceptional Service Awards, and the Distinguished Service Award. Beyond his accolades, he is widely respected for his mentorship of fellow officers, his steady leadership, and his unwavering dedication to those he serves.
