Bethel Man Arrested after Crash for DUI & Drug Offenses

A Bethel man has been charged with DUI and drug offenses after a crash around 9pm in Laurel Friday. Delaware State Police were called to the parking lot of Tacos Chabelita for a crash and found a motorcycle operated by 60 year old Wade Bowersox of Bethel struck the passenger side of a parked Ford Explorer. Police say Bowersox then moved the motorcycle to the rear of the business before going into the restaurant and sitting down.

Police found Bowersox inside and observed signs of impairment. While escorting him outside Bowersox tried to hide a small bag of suspected cocaine in one of the saddlebags. Bowersox was arrested and a search of the motorcycle turned up suspected cocaine, digital scale and alcoholic beverages.

Police learned Bowersox had five prior DUI-related convictions.聽 Bowersox was taken to Troop 5 where troopers obtained a search warrant for his blood. He was charged with the below listed offenses聽and is charged with the following offenses:聽

  • 6th Offense Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol (Felony)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Driving While Suspended
  • Related Traffic Offenses

Bowersox was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $30,602 cash bond.
