Bicyclist in critical condition following serious crash in Frankford

Delaware State Police are investigating a serious crash near Frankford.

According to Delaware State Police, the crash occurred around 12:30 p.m. Sunday, as a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling eastbound on Burbage Road just east of East Sherwood Drive.

A bicyclist was headed eastbound on Burbage Road in the same vicinity when, for unknown reasons, the driver of the Cherokee failed to see the cyclist and struck the rear of the bicycle, police said.

The bicyclist, a 57-year-old Frankford man, was not wearing a helmet, according to police. He was transported to Christina Hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the Cherokee did not sustain any injuries as a result of the crash and remained at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.
