A fire at a Briarwood Circle home in Denton Sunday morning has been ruled accidental by the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s office. Denton firefighters were called just before 8am Sunday where they found a two story wood-frame home with fire in an attached garage.
The fire was discovered by the occupant inside the attached garage. The occupant closed the interior single-main garage door which contained the majority of the fire damage to the garage.
The family of 5 escaped safely, however a pet cat remains unaccounted for. The occupants are being assisted by family and friends and the American Red Cross.
Investigation showed the fire began in the attached garage from discarded smoking materials and was accidental. Officials say smoke alarms and sprinklers were present in the home with unprotected area within the garage. Damage is estimated at $300,000.
