Bryan Allen Stevenson School of Excellence to Close at End of Current School Year

The Bryan Allen Stevenson School of Excellence will close at the end of this school year. State Education officials announced the revocation of the school’s charter effective in June because of enrollment, financial and organizational concerns. The revocation was recommended by the State Department of Education’s Charter School Accountability Committee following a formal review process.

Students may return to the district schools in their home area or use school choice into another district or charter school that is accepting students for the 2026-27 academic year.  The school’s closure is considered “good cause” to allow students to apply after the School Choice deadline, which was in January.

Secretary of Education Cindy Marten placed BASSE on formal review in December. Formal review is the lawful investigation of a charter school to determine whether the school is violating the terms of its charter.

BASSE, which opened in Fall 2024, serves students in grades 6 to 9. Visit 2025-2026 Formal Reviews for related documents.
