Chemical Spill at Mountaire Poultry in Selbyville

Crews from Selbyville and several area fire companies were called for a chemical spill at Mountaire Poultry in Selbyville just before noon.  Selbyville Police Chief Scott Collins tells WGMD that its believed that a forklift punctured a 350-gallon tank of Peracetic Acid, which is used as a dilution for the sterilization of equipment.  The spill was contained to an area of the staging pad outside of the live haul doors.  Six people were treated at the scene – four others were taken to area hospitals for treatment of inhalation.  Hosier Street and other area roads were closed for about 2 hours.

Fire and EMS crews from Roxana, Frankford, Dagsboro and Millville assisted, as well as multiple paramedic units and the hazmat unit from DNREC.
