City of Rehoboth Beach to Preserve Surf Avenue Walkway’s Historic Charm

The City of Rehoboth Beach will rebuild the Surf Avenue walkway using wood rather than concrete, following feedback from local homeowners and residents. City officials had initially proposed expanding the walkway to five feet and replacing it with concrete, but the updated plan keeps it four feet wide and ADA-compliant. The 200-foot section, in place for decades, will cost about $18,000 to replace. City Manager Taylour Tedder said the decision preserves the walkway’s “aesthetics, charm, and historic nature,” noting that the same type of wood used on the boardwalk will be used for the project.
