UPDATED: Claymont Man Arrested for Fatal Milton Area Hit & Run Crash Saturday; Victim Identified

UPDATED – 07/28/25 – Delaware State Police have identified 67 year-old Sylvester Person of Milford as the man who died in a fatal hit-and-run collision on Saturday morning in Milton.

ORIGINAL STORY – 07/27/25 – A Claymont man has been arrested after a fatal crash with a bicyclist Saturday morning just after 7:30 near the intersection of Sand Hill and Burton Roads near Milton. Delaware State Police investigation showed that the bicyclist was riding on the east edge of Sand Hill Road when he was clipped by a Honda driven by 22 year old Tahrie Calloway of Claymont. The 67 year old bicyclist from Milford ended up in the grass ā and was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. Calloway was found with a disabled Honda about a mile north of the scene by EMS personnel. Police say damage to the Honda was consistent with the hit and run collision.Ā
Calloway was taken into custody without incident. During the investigation, troopers observed multiple signs of impairment from Calloway, including the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath and the through the DUI investigation, impairment was suspected to be a factor at the time of the crash.
Calloway was taken to Troop 4, where he was charged with the crimes listed below:
- Vehicular Homicide 2ndĀ Degree (Felony)
- Leaving the Scene of a Collision Resulting in Death (Felony)
- Tampering with Physical Evidence (Felony)
- Driving Under the Influence
- Inattentive Driving
Calloway was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $18,101 cash bond.
