Delaware U.S. Senator Chris Coons (D-DE) said Joe Biden is the “strongest Democratic opponent” ahead of next year’s election in an exclusive interview where he expressed support for the current impeachment inquiry.

WGMD’s Rob Petree spoke with Senator Coons LIVE on Wednesday and asked where he stood on the current impeachment inquiry into President Trump and whether or not he feels the President should be impeached.

Senator Coons said he supports the efforts of those in the House to investigate the President following a phone call with the President of Ukraine where Trump asked him to investigate Joe Biden, who Coons said is the strongest Democratic opponent to take on the President.

In an interview with WGMD’s Rob Petree, Sen. Coons explains…

“He [President Trump] certainly seems to have conditioned our military aide on Ukraine opening an investigation into President Trump’s strongest Democratic opponent in our next election,” Senator Coons said. “I think that’s inappropriate and it should be investigated.”

Senator Coons said he’s glad the House is now proceeding to hold public hearings and if it comes over to the Senate he will take the matter seriously.

The House is set to take a vote Thursday morning on how to proceed with the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump.
