Four guards attacked and injured at Sussex Correctional Institution over the weekend by an inmate charged in the death of Lt Steven Floyd. Delaware State News reporting the incident occurred Friday night, when an inmate refused to return to his cell after he was performing “duties” in the maximum security unit. Four officers had to be dispatched to multiple locations to try to wrangle the inmate, who began throwing punches. Correctional Officers Association of Delaware president Geoff Klopp says one officer had to be taken to a hospital for medical attention. Klopp says this incident is case in point how guards within the DOC are understaffed and underprotected.
