The Delaware Alliance for Nonprofit Advancement (DANA) Launches Health Insurance Program for Delaware Nonprofits

The Delaware Alliance for Nonprofit Advancement (DANA) has launched Care for Good, a new health insurance program designed specifically for Delaware nonprofits with 10 or more enrolled employees. To help enroll members, DANA has partnered with local insurance broker Weiner Benefits Group, which will engage with the nonprofits and their broker during the enrollment process. Weiner Benefits Group Partner Louis Memmolo explains more about the benefits of the new program…

He adds that Care for Good helps organizations to achieve a greater predictability in insurance costs over time, as the program expands options available to the community.

Delaware nonprofits will have access to a health insurance program created exclusively for them and designed to address the unpredictable rate increases that many organizations face each year.

DANA, the Delaware Alliance for Nonprofit Advancement, announced on Wednesday the public launch of Care for Good, an innovative healthcare program designed to provide a sustainable alternative for DANA nonprofit members with 10 or more enrolled employees to secure healthcare coverage for their workers at a stable and predictable cost.

In recent years, DANA has heard from its members about the unpredictability of health insurance rates and the difficulty that it creates. To address this situation, DANA engaged member stakeholders to identify the problem, discuss options and propose a solution: Care for Good.

“DANA’s mission is to empower nonprofits to amplify their impact throughout Delaware. Identifying a solution to an issue that affects so many of our members is central to our alliance,” said DANA President & CEO Sheila Bravo, who also serves as president of Care for Good. “Throughout this process, we have heard from members facing double-digit insurance rate increases, which present significant challenges for nonprofits that operate with limited resources and often cannot absorb unexpected costs.

“Care for Good has been carefully constructed with Delaware nonprofits in mind, to offer a solution that prioritizes quality of care, minimal administrative burden, a range of plans, supplemental benefits focused on wellness, and tools to reduce insurance cost volatility and promote cost transparency.”

Bravo noted that it is almost a full circle moment that DANA is launching this effort during the alliance’s 40th anniversary. DANA originally formed in 1986 in large part to support nonprofits with group purchasing, including health insurance.

DANA could not have reached this point without the dedication and support of Delaware’s lone member of Congress, Bravo said. Congresswoman Sarah McBride championed the issue of health insurance solutions for Delaware nonprofits while a state senator, advocating for DANA to receive funding to build Care for Good. She remains a steadfast supporter and advocate for this initiative and Delaware nonprofits.

“Nonprofits are critical to Delaware’s economic infrastructure and their employees often face unpredictable health insurance premiums and coverage,” Congresswoman McBride said. “Care for Good brings transparency, reliability, and increased accessibility to health care coverage. I was honored to support this initiative in the State Senate and will continue working to deliver affordable health care to my neighbors across the state, because access to care should be a guarantee, not contingent on your circumstance.”

Bravo said that in addition to Congresswoman McBride, DANA is grateful to the Carney and Meyer Administrations for working with the alliance during the formative stages of this program. The Department of Insurance also was an instrumental partner, going above and beyond in helping DANA navigate the application and regulatory processes as it developed Care for Good.

“Delaware’s nonprofits are vital to our communities, and they deserve health coverage that is stable, transparent, and tailored to their needs,” said Insurance Commissioner Trinidad Navarro. “Care for Good is a smart, collaborative step toward reducing cost volatility while prioritizing quality care. The Department of Insurance is proud to support DANA in bringing this innovative solution to nonprofit employees across the state.”

Care for Good is available exclusively to DANA’s 500-plus nonprofit members and any other Delaware nonprofits that join the alliance. While Care for Good is being offered only to nonprofits with 10 or more employees enrolled in their group health plan, DANA also has partnered with Angle Health to offer similar health insurance plans for nonprofit members with fewer than 10 enrolled employees.

To help enroll members, DANA has partnered with local insurance broker Weiner Benefits Group, which will engage with the nonprofits and their broker during the enrollment process. Founded in 1938, Weiner Benefits Group is one of the oldest Delaware-based insurance firms in existence.

“As a Delaware-based independent employee benefits consulting firm, Weiner Benefits Group is proud to partner with DANA to bring this new health insurance solution to the nonprofit community,” said Weiner Benefits Group Partner Louis Memmolo. “Designed as a long-term approach to managing healthcare costs, the program expands the range of options available to organizations seeking greater transparency, stability, and sustainability in their benefits strategy.”

Care for Good offers its clients several unique services that emphasize wellness and preventive care, which are designed to help bring down insurance costs.
