Day 4 Brings New White Marlin Leader

Day 4 of the White Marlin Open saw 148 boats set out in search of white and blue marlin, tuna, dolphin, wahoo and swordfish. For the 4th day in a row boats were waiting for the scales to open at 4pm. The Mister Pete from Charleston, South Carolina was ready for the scales to open and weighed in an 80 pound white marlin. Angler Bill Sharpe of Mt Pleasant, South Carolina says this white marlin was the first bite. One other white marlin came to the scales Thursday – Team OHM had a white marlin that met the length requirement of 70-inches, but only weighed in at 64 pounds – the weight requirement is 70 pounds.

The first wahoo to qualify arrived at the scales on the Gray Fox out of New Jersey. Angler John Wardlaw weighed at 69.5 pound wahoo – which is the sole qualifier on the leaderboard. This is the second time in two days that the Gray Fox came to the scales – Wednesday, Wardlaw weighed in a 179 pound big-eye tuna which leads the Tuna Division.

More tuna and dolphin arrived at the scales – and while they don’t affect the main leaderboard, the other categories that have been entered could bring these fish some significant prize money.

There was no change in the blue marlin division. Since the 53rd White Marlin Open began four days ago – 723 white marlin have been released and 51 blue marlin have been released. Two more fishing days remain.
