DE Division of Small Business Launches Online Form to Nominate New Opportunity Zone Census Tracts
Encouraging private sector development in Delaware鈥檚 economically distressed communities is the goal behind a new initiative launched today by the Delaware Division of Small Business in partnership with Governor Matt Meyer. The state has unveiled an online nomination form for Opportunity Zone 2.0, allowing investors, economic development professionals and government officials to recommend eligible Census Tracts for consideration. Investors who commit to long-term projects in the struggling communities can qualify for significant federal tax benefits, particularly when their investments lead to substantial improvements and development within the zone. To guide the nomination process, the Division of Small Business will host a webinar on Monday, March 9, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., outlining what state officials and the Governor鈥檚 Office are seeking in potential designations. Registration is available online. Governor Meyer said Opportunity Zones are a powerful mechanism for drawing investment and strengthening Delaware鈥檚 economy, but emphasized that public input is critical. Once approved by US Treasury, the newly designated OZ will go into effect Jan. 1st, 2027.
