Delaware House Advances Immigration Limits as Lawmakers Introduce Oversight Bills

The Delaware House passed legislation limiting state and local cooperation with federal civil immigration enforcement in sensitive locations such as schools, places of worship, and healthcare facilities, while allowing exceptions for urgent public safety situations and criminal cases under court order. Separately, Rep. Mara Gorman and fellow lawmakers introduced three bills–HB 366, HB 367, and HB 368– aimed at increasing protections and oversight amid heightened federal immigration activity. The measures would restrict compliance with ICE detainer requests to cases involving serious public safety threats, require law enforcement officers to display identification, and prohibit most officers from wearing face coverings that obscure their identity, with limited exceptions. Supporters say the proposals are designed to strengthen civil liberties, improve transparency, and maintain public trust in law enforcement. The package of three bills has been assigned to the House Judiciary Committee. while HS 2 for HB 94 now heads to the Senate for consideration.
