Delaware Senate Passes Legislation to Enhance Office of New Americans

The Delaware Senate has unanimously passed Senate Bill 27, sponsored by Senator Darius Brown, which formalizes and expands the state鈥檚 Office of New Americans under the Department of State. The legislation builds on the Meyer administration鈥檚 launch of the office in November and is intended to centralize and coordinate services related to immigrant integration, workforce development, and access to state programs. The office would also analyze economic and demographic data and provide policy guidance to state leaders on issues affecting immigrant communities. Senate Bill 27 establishes an advisory committee made up of state officials, community organizations, higher education representatives, and refugee resettlement agencies to advise on policies related to attracting, retaining, and integrating immigrants. The bill includes a three-year sunset provision and now moves to the Delaware House of Representatives for consideration.
