Delmar PD Investigate Picture & Weekend Rumors

A picture of their child dressed in gang attire and holding a handgun upset a Delmar school parent who contacted the police department.  Delmar Police say the picture was NOT taken at school, but at a private home and the student told police the gun belonged to a friend.  On Friday, Delmar Police went to the Delmar Middle Senior High School looking for the gun in the picture and the friend and school officials went on lockdown while police investigated.  The student and his belongings were searched – no weapon was located.  However, the student told others about his contact with police, which turned into a false rumor that spread on social media throughout the weekend.  Police say the gun was located at the concerned parent’s home – it was an Airsoft pistol.  This morning Delmar police interviewed several more students and the source of the school shooting rumor has been identified.  Police say there is no credible threat to the safety of students or staff at Delmar Middle Senior High School.
