DOC Officials Investigating Vaughn Inmate Death

Corrections officials are investigating the death of an inmate at the Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna.  Officials say 67 year old Norris Durham of Dover was in the prison infirmary for an unrelated medical condition when he complained of having chest pains.  Medical staff was getting his vital signs when he lost  consciousness.  Additional life-saving measures were continued by emergency personnel who were not successful in reviving Durham and he was pronounced dead.  He has been at Vaughn since 1981 – serving a life sentence plus 30 years for 1st degree rape and kidnapping.  Durham’s body was sent to the Division of Forensic Science to determine the cause of death.  Foul play is not suspected.
