A Dover man has been arrested for a burglary early Monday morning at the Valero on South Governors Avenue. Delaware State Police were called for a burglary alarm and found broken glass from the front door. Reviewing surveillance video they saw a white man use his hand to create an opening to unlock the door and enter the store. Police say the suspect stole multiple cans of chewing tobacco before leaving. The suspect was identified as 23 year old Damien Swift and was found at a nearby hospital wearing the same clothing as in the surveillance video. He was arrested after receiving medical treatment for injuries to his hand.

Swift was transported to Troop 3, where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Burglary Third (Felony)
  • Theft Under $1500
  • Criminal Mischief

Swift was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7 and released on his own recognizance.
