DSP Arrest Virginia Man on Gun & Drug Charges After Traffic Stop

A traffic stop in Frankford early Monday morning led to the arrest of a Virginia man on weapons and drug charges. Delaware State Police on patrol just before 1:30am spotted a Lincoln speeding southbound on Route 113 in Frankford. As the trooper spoke with the driver, identified as 19 year old Demetrius Daniels of Chesapeake, Virginia, the trooper spotted what looked like an extended handgun magazine between the passenger seat and center console. Daniels was detained and a search of the car turned up the following:Ā 

  • Loaded 9mm handgun with an extended magazine and ammunition
  • 9mm magazine
  • Personal use amount of marijuana
  • Digital scale

Daniels was arrested and taken to Troop 4, where he was charged with the crimes listed below:

  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Under 21 (Felony)
  • Possession of a Large Capacity Magazine During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Possession of Personal Use Quantity Marijuana – Under 21
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia Marijuana Related
  • Speeding
  • Several Traffic Violations

Daniels was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $66,252 secured bond.
