Firefighters in Parsonsburg were called for a structure fire just after 6:30 Monday morning on Wango Road. Crews arriving at the scene found a two story wood frame home with fire showing.
Fire officials say the resident and his dog were able to safely escape after hearing a pop and a passing motorist alerting him to fire on the outside of the home. Firefighters from multiple companies assisted or provided backup. Officials say that a smoke alarm was present and activated.
Maryland State Fire Marshal investigators say the fire began on the exterior of the home on the front porch. The cause was accidental – an electrical failure at an outlet. It took nearly 90 minutes to bring the fire under control – crews were on the scene for just over 3 hours.
Damage is estimated at $110,000.
