Easton Police Warn of Increased Vehicle-Related Thefts

Recently, Easton, MD Police have seen an increase in thefts of vehicles and theft from vehicles. During almost all occasions, these vehicles were not locked with the crimes occurring overnight. If items were not removed, the vehicles were ransacked. Items being stolen include valuables in plain sight. Easton Police recommends that area residents never leave valuables exposed in plain view and make sure vehicle doors are always locked. In addition, even if a certain bag, briefcase, or purse doesn’t contain anything valuable, the common criminal will not. Remove these items too, to prevent unnecessary damage to your vehicle because a criminal thought there might be something valuable inside it. Also they suggest that if possible, park in areas well lit.

From Easton Police:
By following these suggestions, you may prevent yourself from becoming a victim:
• Never leave valuables exposed in plain view.
• Always lock your vehicle’s doors.
• As an added measure, lock glove boxes and center consoles when concealing valuables inside them.
• Remember that just because you know that a certain bag, briefcase, or purse doesn’t contain anything
valuable, the common criminal will not. Remove these items too, to prevent unnecessary damage to your
vehicle because a criminal thought there might be something valuable inside it.
• If possible, park in areas well lit.
• Pay attention to any suspicious noises or activity. If something sounds or appears suspicious, investigate or
contact the police department. However, we (the Police department) do not recommend that you confront
persons suspected in committing crimes.
