June 13, 2026/
Just after 1 o’clock Saturday morning emergency personnel from Carlisle Fire Department and multiple other agencies were called to assist after a release of 68 pounds of ammonia into the air from Perdue Farms on North Rehoboth Boulevard in Milford. The chemical is considered hazardous by the EPA and incident is under investigation by DNREC.
Officials say several patients were transported by EMS to area hospitals.
The release was due to a failed seal on an air exchanger – with necessary repairs made by employees.
Emergency units conducted air monitoring and deemed the facility safe and has returned to normal operations. Emergency personnel were on the scene for over 3 hours. Â
