Federal, state and local officials visited the Indian River Inlet Friday to get an update on the work being done to protect the coastline. DNREC Secretary Greg Patterson and officials from the US Army Corps of Engineers led the tour of the restoration projects along the bridge and beaches at the inlet. On the south side of the bridge the group inspected the newly completed equipment upgrades to the sand bypass system that was made possible thanks to $1.2 million in Congressionally Directed Spending in 2022. They also viewed coastal damage to the beaches on the north side of the inlet where $8.1-million in state and federal funds will be used to replenish and protect the inlet and Route 1 from major storms.
