UPDATED: Grain Bin Rescue near Bridgeville – I Victim Taken to Hospital, 2nd Victim Found Deceased

UPDATED – 04/11/25 – 12pm – An agricultural accident Friday evening east of Bridgeville left one man dead.

Delaware State Police continue to investigate this incident which brought multiple fire companies and other rescue personnel to Evans Farms on Redden Road just before 5pm. Reports of two men trapped in a grain tank. After lengthy rescue efforts crews from Delaware and Maryland were able to remove a 20 year old Bridgeville man from the tank. He was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A 66 year old Bridgeville man was located in the tank and pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigation shows the two entered the grain tank to loosen an auger that was clogged with corn. While in the tank they became stuck and corn from a higher level slid onto them, trapping them in the grain.

The investigation is continuing.

UPDATED – 04/11/26 – 3:40am – Firefighters and rescue personnel from throughout the region were in Bridgeville Friday where two subjects were trapped in a grain bin on Redden Road. The call came in just before 5pm and personnel from 6 counties responded. One victim was removed from the grain bin just after 8pm and transported to an area hospital. There has been no official word on the second victim. Crews were on the scene for over 8 ½ hours – and cleared just after 1:30 this morning.

ORIGINAL STORY – 6:35pm – Firefighters and rescue personnel from throughout the region are working to free two subjects who are trapped in a grain bin on Redden Road east of Bridgeville. The call came in just before 5pm and multiple calls for vacuum trucks and other personnel have gone out. 

According to the Delmarva Firefighter Forum on Facebook:

Update: The first vacuum truck has arrived from the County, but is the wrong type of vacuum truck and operations are delayed. Two helicopters are on scene waiting the patients to be removed from the grain bin. Crews have made access to the second patient’s head. Command has placed a special call for Canteen 400 from Ridgely Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. in Maryland due to the probability of an extended operation. Ladder trucks from Greenwood, Seaford, Ellendale, Harrington Fire Company, Inc., Milford, and Selbyville are on scene to lower equipment into the grain bin to Tech Rescue team members from across Sussex and Kent County.
 
Update 2: Command is requesting confined space rescue crews from Salisbury Fire Department and Ocean City Fire Department.
