Frankford VFC Awarded Grain Rescue Tube & Training

Volunteer firefighters safety simulated a mock rescue with their new equipment as part of their training
First responders from the Frankford Volunteer Fire Company have been awarded a grain rescue tube and specialized training from the Delaware Farm Bureau. This comes through the Nationwide Grain Bin Safety Advocacy campaign and used to help protect against grain entrapments, which end in dozens of deaths across rural America. Â
Every year, thousands of farmers and commercial grain handlers risk their lives by entering grain bins to remove clumped or rotted grain. As rural communities have come to know all too well, the risks of entering grain bins continue to be overlooked.  Frankford is one of 390 rural fire departments to receive a grain bin rescue tube – and training.
In Delaware, 15 fire companies have been awarded grain rescue tubes since this program began in 2014 – including, Bridgeville, Camden-Wyoming, Carlisle, Delmar, Georgetown, Harrington, Hartly, Laurel, Milton and Seaford Fire Companies.
Since 2014, at least 13 successful rescues have utilized these resources, including six successful rescues last year.
