UPDATED: Georgetown fire claims one life, another in critical condition

UPDATED 2/9: A fire that broke out in Georgetown earlier this week has turned fatal. On Wednesday a fire broke out in a home on Teaberry Lane, sending 2 occupants to the hospital with serious burns. According to the Delaware State Fire Marshal, one of those people, an 84 year old woman died yesterday as a result of her injuries. The other victim, a 54-year old man remains in critical condition at the Crozer Burn Center in Pennsylvania. Officials are still investigating the cause and origin of the blaze, and say this is the first fire-related death in Delaware so far this year.

A fire that left two people badly burned is under investigation by the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office.  Georgetown firefighters were called to a home on Teaberry Lane just after noon.  They found smoke in the home and two residents inside.  The residents were taken to Beebe Hospital where they are in critical condition.  Investigators are still trying to determine the cause and origin of the fire – damage is estimated at $5000.
