UPDATED: Georgetown Voters Elect Angela Townsend, Mayor and Michael Briggs to Ward 3 Councilman
UPDATED – 05/09/26 – Georgetown has a new mayor. Unofficial results have Angela Townsend elected from a field of three candidates – receiving 75% of the vote. Townsend received 512 votes, Itzel Hernandez won 133 votes and Geoffrey Walker received 38 votes. In the Ward 3 election, Michael Briggs was the top vote-getter with 533 to incumbent Eric Evans 128 votes. Incumbent Penuel Barrett will return to Ward 4 – he ran unopposed. Once the results are certified, the winners will be sworn in on May 26th.

UPDATED – 05/07/26 – Voters in Georgetown will head to the polls on Saturday to elect a new mayor and 2 members to the town council. Three candidates are running for mayor – Itzel Hernandez, Angela Townsend and Geoffrey Walker. In Ward 3 – incumbent Eric Evans is challenged by Michael Briggs. Incumbent Penuel Barrett is the only candidate to file for Ward 4.
Current Mayor Bill West announced in March that he would not be seeking re-election after 12 years as mayor – to focus on family and his health.
The polls will be open at Town Hall on Saturday from 8am to 6pm. The deadline for voting by absentee ballot in person is Friday, May 8 at 4:00pm.

ORIGINAL STORY – 04/20/26 – Georgetown voters will be going to the polls on Saturday, May 9 to elect a new mayor and 2 town council members. There are three candidates running for mayor – Itzel Hernandez, Angela Townsend and Geoffrey Walker. Current Mayor, Bill West, announced several weeks ago that he was not running for re-election. There are two candidates running for the Ward 3 seat – incumbent Eric Evans is challenged by Michael Briggs. Incumbent Penuel Barrett is the only candidate to file for the Ward 4 seat.
If you have not registered to vote in the Georgetown election, the deadline to register at the Department of Elections on North Race Street is Wednesday, May 6.
