Governor Wes Moore Declares a State of Emergency Amid Federal Government Shutdown


Governor Wes Moore today declared a State of Emergency to address the economic impacts of the federal government shutdown and allocate resources to address health and welfare needs in the state. Governor Moore also issued an executive order providing $10 million in emergency funding to Maryland food security partners to support residents affected by the lapse in November SNAP benefits and recent federal job losses in the state.

The Maryland Department of Human Services will continue to process new SNAP applications at MarylandBenefits.gov. The department is also encouraging program participants to keep their information up to date to continue to receive all benefits when the shutdown ends.
