Harrington Man Charged with 6th Offense DUI after Traffic Stop

A Harrington man has been charged after a traffic stop in Felton on Monday. Delaware State Police spotted an SUV on Holly Spring Road with no license plate. A traffic stop was made and the driver – 61 year old Paul Messick of Harrington – showed signs of impairment while speaking with troopers. Field sobriety tests showed Messick was under the influence and computer check showed 5 prior DUI-related convictions – and no valid driver’s license. Messick was arrested and charged with the following offenses:

  • 6th Offense DUI (Felony)
  • Driving without a Valid License
  • Expired Tags

Messick was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $6,101 secured bond.
