Honorable Caroline Brittingham Joins The Court Of Chancery As Magistrate In Chancery

The Honorable Caroline Brittingham has joined the Court of Chancery as Magistrate in Chancery. She will handle cases throughout the State of Delaware – with chambers located in Georgetown. This is one of two newly funded Magistrate in Chancery positions designed to help the court in its increasing workload. Magistrate Brittingham is a Delaware resident and graduate of Cape Henlopen High School. After law school she clerked for the Honorable M. Jane Brady of the Superior Court in New Castle County.

She received her undergraduate degree from James Madison University and her law degree from the Florida Coastal School of Law. After law school, Magistrate Brittingham clerked for the Honorable M. Jane Brady of the Superior Court in New Castle County.
Magistrate Brittingham has a long history of public service, having worked over 12 years with the Delaware Department of Justice. Magistrate Brittingham began her career in 2013 and since that time has prosecuted a wide range of cases for the Department of Justice throughout the State of Delaware in Superior Court, Court of Common Pleas, Family Court, and the Justice of the Peace Court. Magistrate Brittingham served as Head of the Misdemeanor Trial Unit in Sussex County before joining the Human Trafficking Unit at the time of its inception in January 2022. Magistrate Brittingham was instrumental in pioneering the establishment of the Human Trafficking Unit. This role allowed her to address human trafficking in the State of Delaware through prosecution, awareness, outreach, and legislative efforts.
Magistrate Brittingham has been actively involved in the Delaware Anti-Trafficking Action Council (“DATAC”) as the appointed representative from the Department of Justice. Most recently, she served as Vice-Chair of the Council, Member of the Executive Committee, and Co-Chair of the Legislative Subcommittee. Magistrate Brittingham also served as a member of the Wilmington University, Human Trafficking Advisory Board.
Magistrate Brittingham occupies one of two newly funded Magistrate in Chancery positions designed to aid the court in its increasing workload. “Magistrate Brittingham has devoted her distinguished career to serving the State of Delaware.
