Investigation Ongoing into Bomb Threats to Schools Throughout Maryland

Deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a bomb threat received via telephone at Easton Middle School yesterday morning around 9:25. The caller stated there were numerous explosive devices throughout the building, which would detonate at a specified time. School administration followed their policies and evacuated the students and staff from the building. Bomb detecting K-9 teams were sent to complete a scan. Once a K-9 scan of the building was complete, staff and students were allowed to return. The Easton Police Department, Maryland State Police and the Berlin Police Department assisted the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office. During the course of the investigation, police learned there were numerous similar threats to schools throughout the state, including in Frederick, Carroll, Charles and Wicomico Counties. All identified calls were made from a New Jersey area code.
