Julianne Murray Announces Re-election Bid for Delaware GOP Chair

Julianne Murray has announced that she is running for re-election for the Delaware GOP Chair. When she announced her bid in 2023 Murray says she had three goals – raise the visibility of the Delaware GOP, unify the party and increase the turnout of Republican voters. Over the past two years those goals have been reached. Murray is challenged by State Senator Dave Lawson who announced his intention to run for state chair two weeks ago.

Under Murray’s leadership, the DEGOP has seen significant transformations:
  • Financial Recovery: The party was brought back from the brink of insolvency, managing to not only clear debts but also secure a new headquarters through a kind donation.
  • Technological Advancements: Development and deployment of the DEGOP app, which has been recognized for its effectiveness, akin to national models.
  • Voter Turnout: Achieved a record 75% turnout for Republicans in the November 2024 general election, with 40% of these votes cast early.
Despite these successes, Murray acknowledges the ongoing challenge of voter registration numbers, emphasizing, “We recognize the need to close the registration gap, and under my leadership, we are committed to exploring and implementing new strategies to address this issue.”

Murray Stated “Senator Dave Lawson announced his intention on running for state chair. Senator Lawson has been a courageous and bold public servant in Delaware for years and we owe him a debt of gratitude—but now is not the time for a changing of the guard.  I can say from experience that there is at least a one-year learning curve for new Chairs, and we do not have a day to spare, much less a year.”

She further added, “I was very torn about running again, but I care too much about this party’s future to step aside at this critical juncture. Two more years under my leadership will significantly enhance our position, allowing us to build a substantial war chest, recruit candidates early, and reach out to unregistered voters.”

Murray concluded her announcement by emphasizing the need for unity and forward momentum, “I will not let this Party go through the divisiveness of the 2023 Chair Race. If Senator Lawson believes he has the answers, he should make his case, but we must prioritize continuity to capitalize on our recent achievements.”
