Update: Late-Winter Road Construction Picks Up in Sussex, Worcester Counties

Update from the DRBA: “Freeman Highway construction start date delayed to Sunday evening, March 27, 2022.  Project completion date remains May 20, 2022.  The Authority’s contractor, Allan Myers of Malvern, PA, will begin milling and paving work to rehabilitate Freeman Highway, the main access route to the Cape May – Lewes Ferry. 

-The main route to the Lewes Terminal of the Cape May – Lewes Ferry will be resurfaced starting this month.
According to the Delaware River and Bay Authority, construction on Freeman Highway will take place weeknights between 6:00 p.m. until the following mornings at 6:00 a.m.
Daytime traffic is not expected to be affected, but nighttime and overnight travelers may encounter delays and are encouraged to use caution in the construction zone.
The Freeman Highway project is expected to be completed before Memorial Day weekend.

-Construction is underway on Front Street in Seaford between Middleford Road and East High Street due to mechanical and electrical repairs to the Seaford Drawbridge. According to DelDOT, motorists can expect intermittent lane closures weekdays between 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. through Thursday, March 31st. Flaggers will be on hand to assist pedestrians crossing the bridge when lane closures occur.

-Motorists traveling in the Berlin area may encounter slow conditions due to a construction project getting underway this week.
Local lane closures can be expected on Route 113 in the area of Maryland 376 (Bay Road). Construction is expected to continue weekdays, except for Fridays, until at least March 21st.
