Legislation sponsored by 37th District Representative Ruth Briggs King would create a Grants-in-Aid Committee. This is a bipartisan proposal that aims to improve accountability for millions of dollars in state funding awarded to hundreds of non-profit agencies each year. Volunteer fire companies, senior centers, and veteran and youth groups are among the recipients.

This Grants-in-Aid Committee would be a joint committee of Senate and House representatives who would view applications for grants-in-aid and develop and recommend to the Joint Finance Committee (JFC) the grants-in-aid appropriations bill. This would allow the JFC to focus on crafting the state’s operating budget.

House Bill 40 has passed in the State House and is awaiting consideration in the Senate Executive Committee.
