Lewes BPW Urges Residents to Prepare for the Weekend Storm

Lewes Board of Public Works urges Lewes residents to prepare for the upcoming storm.聽 Secure your home by bringing in loose items and covering windows, have multiple ways to receive alerts, such as a NOAA Weather Radio or emergency apps, create a family communication plan with a designated safe spot, and prepare an emergency kit with essentials like food, water, and a first-aid kit.聽

If you should have a power outage, call 302-645-6228. If winds exceed 45mph, our linemen will not respond to the outage to avoid extreme danger from falling debris, electrocution, and falls, as their safety is the top priority.聽

You should never drive through floodwaters because it is extremely dangerous and can lead to vehicle damage or being swept away. It only takes about 12 inches of moving water to carry away most cars, and it’s often impossible to tell how deep the water is or what hazards, like debris or washed-out roads, lie beneath the surface. The best course of action is always to “turn around, don’t drown” by taking an alternate route or waiting for the water to recede.聽

Be safe!
