Major Drug Manufacturing & Trafficking Operation Investigation in Wicomico County Leads to Seizure of Cocaine & Firearms

In February, an investigation was started by detectives assigned to the Wicomico County Joint Community Action Team into Leander Lewis of Salisbury for the suspected distribution and manufacture of drugs in Wicomico County. On May 28th, a search and seizure warrant was executed at a residence on South Delano Avenue in Salisbury. Lewis was arrested as he left the residence during the execution of the warrant.
The search resulted in the seizure of:
- One compressed brick of cocaine weighing 285.98 gramsÂ
- Four bags containing manufactured crack cocaine weighing 83.8 gramsÂ
- Two bags containing powder cocaine weighing 49.11 gramsÂ
- Four bags of cannabis weighing 101.54 gramsÂ
- $2,318 in U.S. currencyÂ
- Drug manufacturing equipment and related paraphernaliaÂ
- One SCCY 9mm handgun Â
- One Ruger .380 caliber handgun Â
- Numerous rounds of ammunition
Lewis is charged with multiple drug and weapons offenses:
- Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine Â
- Possession of Cocaine Â
- Manufacturing Crack Cocaine Â
- Possession of Drug Manufacturing Equipment Â
- Possession of a Firearm in Relation to a Drug Trafficking Crime Â
- Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition by a Prohibited Person
- numerous additional firearms and controlled dangerous substance offenses
This investigation was conducted by the Wicomico County Joint Community Action Team (JCAT), a collaborative enforcement unit comprised of members of the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, Salisbury Police Department, and the Wicomico County State’s Attorney’s Office. Through coordinated enforcement efforts, JCAT continues to conduct proactive drug investigations into organizations operating throughout Wicomico County.
The Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention (GOCCP) provides grant funding and strategic support to Maryland Criminal Intelligence Network (MCIN) member agencies to identify, disrupt, and dismantle criminal organizations through intelligence sharing and interagency collaboration, helping make Maryland communities safer.
