(updated story)

A 61-year-old Rehoboth Beach man is in a hospital in critical condition after colliding with a car while riding a moped in the bus-and-bike lane of Coastal Highway.

According to Delaware State Police, the car made a right turn into the parking lot of Cracker Barrel and Econo Lodge Monday night and struck the left side of the moped which was traveling behind the car. That caused the moped’s driver to be thrown to the asphalt.

Police said the car was driven by a Brooklyn, New York woman. The driver and her passenger were not injured.

The incident impacted traffic on Southbound Coastal Highway for about three hours. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit at 302-644-5020 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333.
