Mardela Springs Man Sentenced for Sexual Abuse of Minor

A Mardela Springs man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for sexual abuse of a minor. Wicomico County Circuit Court Judge S. James Sarbanes sentenced 31 year old Joseph Norman after he entered guilty plea on June 6 to sexual abuse of a minor, two counts of 3rd degree sexual offense and manufacturing child pornography. His sentencing was postponed pending completion of a pre-sentence investigation and mental health assessment.

After serving his sentence, Norman will be on 5 years of supervised probation. Should he violate that probation he will be subject to 20 years in prison. Norman will also be required to register as a Tier 3 Sex Offender.

Court records show that in January of this year, Court records show that in January of this year, Norman sexually abused a minor who was under his care and responsibility – the victim was under the age of 16 at the time.
