A $5.6 billion package of tax incentives to try and lure an Amazon headquarters to Maryland has passed the State Senate; the vote Monday night was 35 -11 for the measure, just before the general assembly reached its crossover deadline. The bill includes a package of state income, property and sales tax credits. The main components of the legislation include a tax credit on wages Amazon pays, sales and use tax breaks for building the headquarters and a tax break on increases in property value. The measure would not take effect if Amazon decides not to build a headquarters in the state.
